Parquetry Flooring

Parquetry is less about a single timber species and more about a flooring pattern — herringbone, chevron, and basket-weave designs are common in older Sydney apartments and heritage homes. Restoring parquetry requires specialised sanding techniques due to the multiple, intersecting grain directions within the same floor.

Common timbers include Blackbutt, Oak and Brushbox laid in herringbone, chevron, basket-weave and custom geometric patterns — each bringing its own character to feature areas, entryways and character homes throughout the city.

Because parquetry combines multiple grain directions in one floor, standard single-direction sanding can cause uneven wear or "flashing" — shiny patches where the grain catches light differently.
